Hot Exit saves unsaved buffer snapshots in the background so you never lose work if the app closes, updates, or crashes.
How It Works#
-
Background Snapshots: Whenever a file is modified, Lumide writes dirty state snapshots to a local cache directory (
~/.sofluffy/lumide/hot_exit/). -
Quit Without Prompts: You can close Lumide (
Cmd+Q/Alt+F4) or reboot with unsaved files open without confirming save dialogs. -
Session Restoration: When Lumide restarts, all open tabs, split layouts, cursors, and unsaved changes are restored with the dirty indicator (
•) intact.
Crash & Power Recovery#
If Lumide terminates unexpectedly (e.g. power loss or kernel panic):
- Snapshots are preserved on disk.
- On the next launch, Lumide detects the backup session and prompts to restore unsaved buffers automatically.
Settings#
In Settings -> General:

files.hot_exit):true(default) orfalse. When set tofalse, Lumide prompts to save or discard unsaved changes before exiting. -
